Client: London Borough of culture

Welcome To The Forest

Role: Event Production

Brief: Waltham Forest was the first ever London Borough of Culture. To showcase the history and community of this much loved corner of east London, Welcome to the Forest was created around the years theme of Radicals, Makers and Fellowships.

Response: With a focus on the street performances, audio visual installation and management of volunteers we worked with Festival curators Continental Drifts to transform the local roads into a neon-lit, celebratory winter carnival. At nearby Lloyd Park The Nest was built by artists Marshmallow Laser Feast who displayed an epic lighting installation choreographed to a transcendental soundscape by composer Erland Cooper that featured local school choirs.

Elsewhere in the event, co-producer Ellie Barnatt managed a large scale 3D mapped projection show that transformed Waltham Forest Town Hall. Created by artists Greenaway & Greenaway and Mercury Music Prize-winning musician and producer Talvin Singh the high energy audio-visual installation told the story of the borough through the eyes of its diverse communities. The Town Hall also hosted a bespoke video commission from local electronic duo Addictive TV who presented a unique piece of music created by sampling audio and video of local musical talent.

Outcome: Three day family friendly event attended by over 70,000 people to celebrate the past, present and future of Waltham Forest.
