FUTURICE ACHIEVE BETTER AWAY DAY ATTENDANCE AFTER SWAPPING Hot DESKS FOR ANOMALOUS SPACE

Lets explore how remote tech company, Futurice, saw a dramatic improvement with away day attendance and enjoyment after swapping hot desk work spaces for Anomalous.

(All blue quoted text is the words of Alice Castle, a Futurice Director. Shout-out to you Alice, you’re awesome!)

the story of futurice

Futurice is a fully remote digital consultancy company, with a workforce distributed across the UK helping clients globally to create digital products and services. The culture of Futurice champions autonomy, diversity and a sense of welcoming for all employees.

Like Futurice, increasing numbers of companies are becoming remote, or at least introducing a hybrid, flexible working model for their employees.

the challenge of leading a remote team before anomalous space

Despite the fact that Futurice are fully remote, monthly meet-ups are still an important aspect of the company’s culture. These meetings can foster a sense of togetherness, connectivity and creativity for an otherwise totally remote team.

A huge challenge for Futurice was finding the right workspace for these semi-regular meetings. It was strenuous and time-consuming to find a venue that ticked all of the boxes: flexible, homely energy and a space that felt like theirs.

Since the culture at Futurice is hot on all staff feeling welcome, it was important that the workspace they used to host company-wide meetings aligned with these key values.

We struggled to find a flexible place where we could get together and have our own space. As a remote company, meeting up regularly is important to bring the team together in person.

Other work spaces felt too corporate, too small or were large shared spaces where we struggled to work near each other or connect as a team.

why futurice chose anomalous space

Futurice started working with Anomalous Space in 2022, and haven’t looked back since.

From the flexibility of the enquiries team to the versatility and homely energy of the rooms, Anomalous Space ticked all the boxes for Futurice’s ideal meet-up venue.

Futurice make use of multiple spaces, but most notably, they regularly use The Home for their monthly team meet-ups. As a space that values well-being, we’re delighted that Futurice also use the space for wellness activities to nurture their team’s mental health.

Don’t just take it from us, though:

We use Anomalous for our regular monthly team days where we work collaboratively, order in lunch and have team meetings.

We often have guest speakers and run activities for the team such as sound healing and yoga.

We also make use of the meeting rooms at our team days for client meetings or when we need to get together in small teams. We have used Anomalous for client events in the evening and for our company Christmas party.

Having a large, homely flexible space which includes different areas and a well-equipped kitchen makes Anomalous great for working, socialising and business events.

It is also easy to manage our bookings and organise events as the team at Anomalous are always really helpful and accommodating.

the results

Alice confirmed that, since they ditched the hot-desk style workspaces for their team meet-ups, Futurice have seen an increase in enjoyment and attendance for their team away days.

This result is huge for remote teams; it’s often difficult to foster a sense of connectivity and togetherness in a company that mostly works from home.

Having a regular meet up at Anomalous has definitely helped to bring our remote team together.

Our team days have been more successful and enjoyable and have seen a marked increase in attendance since we moved from a hot desking type work space to the more cosy and social space at Anomalous.
