9 WAYS ANOMALOUS LIVES MORE SUSTAINABLY (AND YOU CAN TOO!)
In spirit of Earth Day, we’re sharing NINE WAYS we keep Anomalous as sustainable as we can. We’re a small business, so don’t go thinking we can move mountains; but we certainly do what we can.
Check out some useful links below to implement these changes into your home or workplace!
FOUR WAYS WE ELIMINATE WASTE
1.Brita don’t Quita
We get it, we don’t want to drink London water straight from the tap either.
Invest in a Brita jug (one filter can last a full month!) to avoid needless plastic bottles. You’ll find one in every space at Anomalous.
2. Waste not want not
We have an odd little machine in the communal kitchen that dries, grinds and cools food waste into odourless chips.
Not only does this machine make the jobs of the bin-men and those who sort waste that little bit better, but we’re removing 5 kilos of food waste from landfill per month.
3. Single-use plastic is the enemy
If you buy in bulk, consider opting for suppliers who use single-use plastic alternative packaging such as Cheeky Panda!
We’re not perfect, but we try our best to source as much plastic-less stock as we can.
4. We have an “onsite recycling centre”
When the random drawers of a second-hand bedside table become full of dead batteries or old Brita filters, we send Sam on his merry way to recycle them at Sainsbury’s instead of chucking them in general waste.
See below an image of our high-tech recycling centre.
TWO WAYS WE CONTRIBUTE TO FEWER CARBON EMISSIONS
5. Centrally located (and not just by the pubs)
We know the Northern Line isn’t exactly the happiest place on Earth, but using public transport is a great way to cut down your carbon footprint.
We’re right by Angel station and Kings Cross, making us easily accessible via the train even from the EU!
5. Get on ya bike
A bike is a cheap and green way of getting around, especially in the city. We’re excited to get our brand new bike lock installed later this year to encourage clients to cycle in.
TWO ENERGY EFFICIENCY HACKS
6. Guilt-free energy provider
We are 100% powered by Ecotricity, Britain’s greenest energy supplier. Need I say more?
7. The world’s most convenient heating
In a draughty old building, it gets bloody hard to not waste energy. We’ve installed infrared panels that. in Sam’s words, “warm the person, not the space”.
Our heating system is also almost entirely wifi controlled, meaning I can turn anything on/off remotely. Very helpful for someone with anxiety.
TWO WAYS WE ENCOURAGE BIODIVERSITY
8. Sam the medicine man
We have window boxes full to brim with perennial medicinal herbs courtesy of one of our founders Sam, why don’t you try your hand at growing some?
9. A bee-con of life!
Bad pun, sorry,
We also grow Eucalyptus and other plants that encourage biodiversity and pollination. (And it is absolutely worth fleeing from the bees as I try to get through the front door each morning.)
